Your maintenance team does not know everything, just like you don’t know everything. It’s okay that they have to ask questions or get help. That does not mean that you have to lose faith and confidence in them. It just means that they’re human beings. Like you and I.
While they are our backbone in the world of property management, they cannot be expected to have strengths in every area. Just like you and I, we have our weakness. Maybe it’s budgets and reading financial statements, maybe it’s hiring and firing. Whatever our weakness is, we ask for help and guidance.
It’s part of being a leader and being a bigger person, to be able to step up and say, “I don’t know”. So respect the fact that your maintenance supervisor may not know everything and respect the fact that he/she said they didn’t know how to do it before attempting to and causing a bigger mess than you want on your hands.
